Crampons

Crampons are used in mountaineering, glacier climbing and ice climbing. These metal plates with spikes are used to provide extra grip and stability on icy and snowy surfaces and allow the climber to move safely over these difficult terrains.

To use crampons, the climber attaches them to the climbing shoes or boots by placing them over the soles and adjusting them to fit the size and shape of the shoe. Crampons are usually attached using adjustable straps or bindings that ensure they stay in place during the climb. When the crampons are properly attached, the climber can walk and climb on icy and snowy surfaces with better grip and stability.
