IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) is the leading global organisation for the safe and effective use of rope access in industrial work at height. Through strict training requirements and certification schemes, IRATA ensures that technicians work to the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
IRATA training programmes we offer
- C2 IRATA L1, 5 days (level 1)
Level one (Level 1) can get to and from the workplace using ropes, can use fall arrest equipment and perform basic peer rescue. - C2 IRATA L2, 5 days (level 2)
Level 2 covers all types of ropes including tensioned ropes (tensioned lines) and more advanced rescues. - C2 IRATA L3, 5 days (level 3)
Level 3 covers work management, risk analysis, legislation, complex rescue scenarios, management of rescue operations and inspection of work equipment. (basic understanding, there is specific PPE training to become a "competent person").
Why use IRATA certified companies?
IRATA-certified companies carry out their work more safely and efficiently. The training given to IRATA technicians follows a strict professionalised curriculum taught by staff who take safety seriously. The trainers are experts in rope access and have many years of experience.
IRATA's assurance of safe and responsible work is based on:
- Regular auditing of member companies
- Tough entry criteria for membership
- Well-trained rope access technicians who need to be retrained and recertified every three years
- Independent assessment and evaluation of each IRATA technician, regardless of training location.
- Working practices that are consistent wherever IRATA teams work
Working safely at height cannot be achieved if training and working methods are not applied. This is why IRATA only works with serious operators who want to continue to train, work and maintain the safe and effective working practices developed over 18 years.
History of IRATA
Industrial rope access, trained and operated by the member companies of IRATA International, has come a long way in the last three decades. From being created to meet a specific need to solve the problems of maintenance work in the offshore industry, rope access has become a recognised part of several industries where work is carried out at height.
The solutions offered to the oil and gas industry by IRATA's working methods have proved to be so adaptable in this sector, that the tasks carried out by members in the offshore industry today are more varied and extensive than the basic maintenance work that was typical in the 1990s. Adaptability is one of the major advantages offered by rope access, where it has proved to be able to undertake large projects that have previously been impossible or extremely costly to implement. In addition, today IRATA rope access is often a necessity/requirement to perform work for many of the leading global offshore companies.
The solutions offered by IRATA to the offshore industry also proved valuable onshore. For many years since, rope technicians have offered a comprehensive portfolio of work in repair, maintenance, inspection and other access works. Today, IRATA teams work on every continent and are just as likely to be seen climbing world heritage sites as on a mast in your local industrial estate.
Many customers are drawn to IRATA certified companies because of the incredibly low number of accidents reported by these companies over the years, while maintaining incredibly fast and efficient working methods. IRATA's working methods are also positive from an environmental point of view, as working methods and equipment often have less impact than conventional methods.
IRATA has grown strongly in recent years and accounts for around 32 million hours (2023) spent on ropes each year by rope access technicians. Independently compiled reports prove beyond doubt that this is a very safe way to work at height.
