Periodic inspection of Power Ascenders

Uppsala is not only home to one of Sweden's largest training centres. It's also where we have our head office and our service department. Among other things, we carry out service, repairs and periodic checks of rescue equipment, fall protection systems and PPE (personal protective equipment). During a visit to the service department, we had a chat with C2's inspector Malin Pernersten who was in the process of performing a periodic inspection of a Power Ascender from ActSafe. Do you need a periodic inspection of your equipment? Read more and book a check-up here.

Hi Malin, tell us more about what you are working on right now?

I am currently carrying out a periodic inspection of an ActSafe Power Ascender. In addition to inspections, we also perform service and minor repairs on all ActSafe Power Ascenders (not tactical).

How is the control organised?

A Power Ascender must be inspected and documented by a certified service partner once a year. You simply send your Power Ascender to us, we carry out the inspection and document it in our web-based system PaperTrail. After the inspection, a check of the inspection itself is carried out, also by a certified inspector. If all control points are approved, the Power Ascender is sent back to the customer within a week. If the Power Ascender needs to be serviced or repaired, we will contact the customer with an estimated time and a cost proposal to consider.

How did you end up at C2 Safety?

I come from the circus world, as a tightrope walker, and have also worked as a circus teacher for many years. This brings me to safety at height, inspections and belaying. I came into contact with C2 about five years ago, when I carried out PPE inspections and surveys under their auspices. Given my background, it was natural to also start teaching safety at altitude at C2. Today I teach courses in GWO, First Aid and Manual handling.

Do you have any tips for our readers?

If you have a Power Ascender that needs servicing, it may be a good idea to remove the battery when you send the machine. This way, shipping will be less complicated than if you were to declare the battery. You can easily check the status of the battery yourself by charging it fully and then testing how far, calculated in metres, you can drive with the machine. If you have any questions about this, please contact me directly! For maximum battery life, it is also important that the battery is charged according to the instruction manual
