Within four years, Swedish wind power production will double. This will require at least 750 newly trained wind power technicians - a result of a strong climate and energy policy.
In 2018, Sweden led Europe in terms of investment in onshore wind power. According to the Swedish Wind Energy Association's forecasts, Swedish wind power production will double over the next four years, from the current level of around 19 TWh to around 38 TWh per year. This means that wind power will account for 25 per cent of electricity consumption in Sweden by 2022.
- Since the Energy Agreement was signed, 62 billion euros worth of investments in new wind power have been decided. "This shows the importance of stable political conditions and constructive dialogue between parties. A long-term perspective creates security for investors and producers and the courage to invest," says Charlotte Unger Larson in a press release on the Swedish Wind Energy Association's website.
The Energy Agreement's goal is for Sweden to have a 100 per cent renewable electricity system by 2040, and a large part of that energy will be wind power. According to calculations made by the Swedish Wind Energy Association, this will mean investments of over SEK 200 billion in wind power.
Demand for wind power technicians is increasing
To reach the target, around three thousand new wind turbines will need to be built in the coming decades. This will increase the demand for skilled labour, which is already high. Over the next four years, Sweden will need at least 750 newly trained wind power technicians.
